Our Biggest Alaska Adventure Ever

Alaska has always been one of our favorite destinations, and over the years we've taken hundreds of travelers north to experience it. For 2027, we wanted to do something different. Rather than simply offer another Alaska cruise, we've created the biggest and most extensive Alaska trip Rockport Tours has ever offered, combining a 7-night cruise with an incredible land journey through the Kenai Peninsula and deep into Alaska's Interior.

We'll begin in Vancouver before boarding Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas for a week along the Alaska coast. The cruise takes us through the beautiful Inside Passage with stops in Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Sitka and Skagway, along with a day cruising beside the enormous Hubbard Glacier. These are places filled with Alaska history, Native culture, wildlife and some of the most impressive scenery in North America.

When we reach Seward, however, our trip is only about half over. Instead of heading home, we'll board our motor coach and travel across the Kenai Peninsula to Homer, an area we haven't included in our previous Alaska programs. We'll spend two nights there with time to enjoy Homer, the famous Homer Spit and the spectacular setting along Kachemak Bay.

From Homer, we'll turn north and begin exploring an entirely different side of the state. Our route includes the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, Alyeska, Palmer, Denali, Talkeetna and Anchorage, with an overnight at the beautiful Hotel Alyeska and an included Tundra Wilderness Tour into Denali National Park. These additions give returning Rockport Tours travelers a chance to see towns and regions of Alaska they haven't experienced with us before, while first-time visitors get a remarkably broad introduction to the state.

Could We See the Northern Lights?

We certainly hope so, and the timing of this trip gives us a legitimate opportunity.

By late August, true darkness has returned to Alaska, and we'll be at Denali on August 31, the night of the new moon. With very little moonlight to brighten the sky, conditions can be favorable for seeing the aurora if the weather and solar activity cooperate. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can never be promised, but we'll have several nights in Alaska's Interior when it will definitely be worth stepping outside and looking up.

Our final full day includes one more classic Alaska experience as we travel to Talkeetna and board the glass-domed Wilderness Express for the journey to Anchorage. It's a wonderful way to finish a vacation that takes us from Alaska's coastal communities and glaciers to the Kenai Peninsula, Denali and the vast landscapes of the Interior.

More Alaska Than We've Ever Offered Before

What makes this trip special isn't one particular attraction. It's how much of Alaska we've been able to bring together in one 15-day vacation. You'll experience the Inside Passage and Hubbard Glacier from the water, travel through the Kenai Peninsula by motor coach, spend time in Homer and Denali, and cross part of the Interior aboard one of Alaska's famous glass-domed trains.

If you've traveled to Alaska with Rockport Tours before, this is not simply a repeat of one of our previous trips. We've added new towns, new areas and new experiences to create a much larger Alaska adventure. If you've never been to Alaska, you'll come home having experienced far more than you would on a typical seven-night cruise.
