The "Painted Churches" of southern Fayette County feature ornate
altars, intricately painted and stenciled ceilings and arches and
stained glass windows. This tour includes St. Mary's (High
Hill), St. John the Baptist (Ammannsville), Sts. Cyril &
Methodist (Dubina) and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Praha).
Early churches were crude, wooden structures, not intended to stand for
years. By the late 1800s, communities were well- established, and
the newcomers turned their attention to more intricate, elaborate
designs. It was this emphasis that resulted in the construction of
these churches in Fayette County, known as the Painted Churches.
Fortunately, these churches have been preserved for us to treasure and
enjoy.
THE
PAINTED CHURCHES TOUR features
comfy Rockport Tours' coach, guided tour of the Painted
Churches. Guests are encouraged to bring a sack lunch for a
picnic. Rockport
Tours will supply the soft drinks and water.
Depart
Corpus Christi, Rockport & Victoria.
